Frequently Asked Questions

Reach out to us at info@laketotrail.com or give us a call at 903-707-4407 if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Do I need a Boater Education Certificate?

If you were born after August 31, 1993, you must have a Texas Boater Safety card to operate a boat in Texas. This is a state law requiring anyone born after this date to complete a TPWD-certified boater education course.

If not completed prior to arrival, NO REFUND will be issued.

How old do I need to be in order to rent a boat, kayak, or paddleboard?

In order to rent a boat, kayak, or paddleboard, you must be 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license, and a credit card. You will also need a Texas Boater Safety card to rent a boat.

Do you provide life jackets with the rental?

We provide each guest with a properly-fitted, Coast Guard-approved life vest.

Is fuel included in the cost of the rental?

One tank of fuel is included in the cost of the rental. Specially requested outings for extended lengths of time will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Are watersports available? (Tubing, wakeboarding, paddleboarding, etc.)

No. Watersports are not available, and renters are not allowed to bring their own tubes, wakeboards, paddleboards, etc.

How many people can ride on a kayak?

Most of our kayaks are designed for one paddler. We do offer one tandem option on which two can paddle together.

Can I cancel my rental if it is cloudy outside?

We DO NOT allow cancellations due to overcast weather or slightly unfavorable conditions.

We WILL NOT cancel outings due to forecasted rain or bad weather.
If the weather does not permit safe watercraft conditions at the time of your reservation, we will reschedule or refund 100% of your rental fee.

What is your cancellation policy?

In order to get a 100% refund of your deposit, the cancellation must be done at least seven days prior to your reservation date.

If cancellation occurs between seven days and 48 hours of your reservation, you will receive 50% of your rental fee.

If cancellation occurs within 48 hours of your reservation, a credit will be granted.
Day-of cancellations and no-call/no-show guests will lose their entire deposits.

Do I need to sign a waiver?

Yes. You are required to sign a damage liability waiver prior to arrival.

This will automatically be sent to the email on file after checkout.

All riders, including the driver and passenger(s), must sign this waiver electronically.

Does your insurance cover any damage I accidentally cause?

No. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works.

When you rent equipment from Trail To Lake Outdoors, we’ll run a pre-authorization and place a hold on your credit card for a set amount.

If damages occur, the person who rents the equipment is liable.

Our team will walk around the equipment with you and take pictures during orientation so we are all aware of any existing scratches or damages.

How much is the damage deposit?

There is a $50 damage deposit per kayak, paddleboard, and e-bike. The deposit for a powered (fishing) boat is $300. Once the units are returned free of any damage, the damage deposit hold will be dropped.

What time should I arrive for my rental?

It is recommended that you arrive 30 minutes prior to your rental pick-up time.

This allows us to get you checked in, give your orientation, and fit your life vest before the rental begins so that you get the most enjoyment of your time.

Your pre-rental email will give you more detailed information about when and where to meet.

Where are you located?

We will meet you at the boat ramp at the Villages Marina Lake Palestine unless a prior special request has been made.

Please note that we have no affiliation with the Villages Marina.

The option for delivery to a home on the lake is available on a case-by-case basis upon request and with advance notice.
